Vinologue: be wine curious

Five Empordà wines to know

Constantly buffeted by the voracious tramuntana wind, the wines of Empordà exude a fresh, playful character that is underscored by the wild elements of the environs.

  1. Castell de Perelada – Finca Garbet 2006
The most expensive wine of Empordà it comes from the striking, terraced vineyards the winery owns in Cap de Creus. Bold and expressive, the wine does indeed deliver on their promise of true Mediterranean character with herbaceous notes along with a potent grip of tannins from the lengthy barrel regimen.
  2. Roig Parals – Camí de Cormes 2010
An absolutely stunning wine from old vine Carignan that was one of the first vineyards re-planted in the region after phylloxera. Excellent balance with toasted oak notes present but a minor element that only serve to elevate the rich dark fruit and herbal notes of the grapes to excellent heights.
