Five Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines to know
Fresh, exciting, and bold are but a few of the terms to describe the newest wines from DO Montsant. Following are a few quick highlights from this “re-discovered” region.
- Domaine Nalys – Eicelènci 2011
Excellent white with salty minerality on top of layered sandstone, mature lime zest. Excellent mouthfeel, full stony, and complex with a slight touch of ash on the finish.
- Domaine Barroche – Pure 2012
A red fruit comfit in the nose with herbal notes of rosemary and sage. Full in the body it presents dry notes of figs and downplayed minerality with a super clean, perfectly lingering finish.
- Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe – Rouge La Crau 2012
Classic Châteauneuf with fresh, bold red fruits housing serious tannins, fruit, and acidity all in harmony.
- La Vieux Donjon – Rouge 2012
Lovely red fruit notes with broad, velvety appeal on the palate and light minerality. One of the best vintages of an already excellent wine.
- Château La Nerthe – Cuvee des Cadettes 2009
Plush and spicy with notes of pepper, cedar and just an overall excellent life to it. It breathes the region from start to finish.
